Thanks Leslie, yes there 'beauty woven through everything if you stop to take a closer look', I have had a similar experience on some trials I used to walk with Alfie my dog. I have to say, I do feel bad when I disturb a web of splendor, so much work and attention to detail has gone into creating it! Mother Nature’s magnificence indeed :)

Luckily the gorgeous one was off to the side of the trail. I hope someone else got to see it that day.

This post made me want to revisit Charlotte’s Web (love that book) and it made “spiderling” my new favorite word. Thank you, Leslie :)

I agree! I’m in a book club where we only read children’s books, and I’m going to suggest this one next time.

I love this so much. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit squeamish about spiders, but I have also stood in awe of a web under construction. What a magnificent feat. The ballooning reminds me of the end of Charlotte's Web.❤️

Yes! We probably all have Charlotte to thank for looking at spiders a little bit differently.

Spider mobile homes! I love that. And yes, nature is insanely smart. Octopusses that leave their enclosure, rearrange another and are back before the keepers return in the morning. Spiders that have their own air travel plans. Insects that look like plants to avoid predators. When we can get out of our own way and stop thinking of ourselves as the top of whatever chain of life there is, one has to be awed by the way other animals live and evolve. I know you know. That said, I hate walking into a web, because ... sticky and ew.

Exactly! Did you read Remarkably Bright Creatures? Made me look at octopuses in a whole new light. They're like little advanced alien creatures of the deep.

Isn't it great when we experience something so fascinating that we're simply awe-struck?

Years ago a couple, whom I'd never met, invited me for Thanksgiving dinner. They were associates of my then architect boyfriend and lived in a fabulous house with their 3 year old son in Mill Valley, CA. The boy and I were taking a tour of the home when we noticed a giant spider web covering one entire window. It was gorgeous, a masterpiece! The wonder in the little boy's face made the encounter all the more astounding. It was a magical moment I'll never forget.
